this is the first of the 10 Commandments.{i do not know if God listed them in order of importance or not, probably not, but i bet this is a pretty important command!]
it is mentioned over 25 other times in the Bible, about not worshipping idols. As a matter of fact; the book of 1st John ends with "Children keep yourself from idols."
Remember that this book was a letter written to churches of the time. So that would seem to be an important command, that John would end a letter with it.
Throughout the Bible, people are constantly worshipping idols. One story that most people find a little silly; is when the Israelites fashioned themselves a golden calf, and danced around it and worshipped it.
Now, i know that there are not many people here worshipping a cow, although people in other countries do. And to be honest, i almost do, when they are turned into cheeseburgers. Man, i love cheeseburgers.
back on point, where was i?? What is your idol?
An idol is anything that we put before God. I can think of several obvious ones. TV!!!
there is even a show called American Idol!!!// Satan does not even really have to be sneaky anymore, it is right out there in the mainstream.
Am i saying tv is bad, no, but it can be, if it comes between you and God.
What about, other media, computers, videos, music, friends,?? All these things can be good and useful, but do you put them before time with God?
I know i have problems with TV.. i watch way to much tv, mostly sports.. And there is not really anything wrong with it, except am i putting that before my time with God?
I am ashamed to say sometimes i do. After all Glenn Beck is on while i type this...
So i pray today that God will forgive my shortcomings, and to help me to put Him first in my life every day.
And i do promise not to ever, ever, ever, build a golden calf and dance around, and worship it.
but i may have a cheeseburger and a milkshake now!!! yup that sounds good. and unfortunately yes in some instances food can be an idol to. At least i remembered to thank God for it. maybe i better add some cheese fries to my plate.

I love milkshakes, especially the carmel milkshake at Sonic! =D
Wow! I love reading your blog! I have a confession. When I get my iPod taken I get all mad like it's the end of the world or sometime along those lines. Would the be considered idoling? I don't know if I spelled that right..... And sometimes I put my computer time before God too. Yep! I admit. But we all do that sometimes.
